Billetterie en ligne :
Jalsa Indian Resonances

The association Kalasetu (” the bridge of arts”) is delighted to join forces with neimënster for the first luxembourgish edition of the festival Jalsa, Echoes of India which will be held on Friday July 8 at 8 p.m.

The diversity and the creativity of India, a multi-faceted cultural subcontinent, reflects on its various forms of artistic expressions. The festival JALSA invites you to discover some of its greatest musical traditions, in sheding light on young artists. This first edition offers an evening in two parts: the first one devoted to the Hindustani tradition, the classical music of North India, with the great violinist Sangeeta Shankar who will perform with her two daughters, Ragini and Nandini, accompanied by Mosin Kawa on tabla. The second part is a musical encounter between the young virtuoso violinist Nandini Shankar and the French singer and instrumentalist Éléonore Fourniau, a recognized performer of popular Turkish and Kurdish repertoires. These artists are performing for the first time in Luxembourg.

Sangeeta Shankar & daughters : Hindustani violin as a heritage – 1st part (45 minutes)

From an early age, Sangeeta Shankar and her two daughters, Ragini and Nandini, were introduced to the subtleties of Hindustani music by their mother and grandmother, the famous violinist Dr. N. Rajam. Like the latter, their playing style mimics the inflection of the singing voice, with a bow technique that achieves the intonation nuances characteristic of Hindustani vocal forms, especially Khayal. This family trio of two generations of female instrumentalists is unique in the world of Hindustani music!

Queens of Melody : From Kurdish songs to Hindustani ragas – 2nd  part (30 minutes)

French artist Éléonore Fourniau sings the joys and sorrows of the Kurdish people with a rare sensitivity, accompanying herself on saz and hurdy-gurdy. Indian violinist Nandini Shankar performs the ragas of Hindustani music with subtlety and virtuosity. In this recent creation, Eléonore Fourniau and Nandini Shankar take us on a musical journey that combines the sung heritage of the vast lands of Kurdistan with the Hindustani ragas of the plains and cities of North India. “Queens of melody ” is an invitation to immerse yourself in the captivating and timeless melodies of these Asian territories.

This evening in the colors of India benefits from the support of Indian and Luxembourgish sponsors and is part of the celebration of the 75th year of Independence of India. An event not to be missed!
